It's currently a sweltering 35 degrees outside...All sixty three inches of me are melting away!
In the midst of a very hot heat wave, I need to get crafty about staying cool and staying healthy! A lot of people use extreme heat as an excuse not to work out, and while that is completely justifiable under certain circumstances, you should never let the heat get in the way of an amazing workout! You're already sweating from the heat, so why not sweat while moving your body?
Here are my tips for getting your butt off the couch on crazy-hot summer days!
1. Stay HYDRATED!
I don't care how you choose to do it, but make sure to keep a water bottle with you at all times and have a sip or two of water at every chance you get! Not only will it be a million times easier to work out when the time comes (no one likes squatting with a dry throat), but it will help you stay extra cool. Add a few ice cubes and you're good to go!
BONUS TIP: Eat your water. Make sure to eat lots of water-dense fruits and veggies! I always have watermelon in stock....Watery and delicious!
2. Work out at the gym.
Make sure your gym has bomb AC and you'll be grateful to head there! It's likely cooler than your own home and it's a great way to transition into a solid workout. I have been spending extra time there lately because it's so much nicer than my non-conditioned house. Even if your workout is light and not too sweaty, it's better than not going at all!
3. Work out in your own home.
Get those fans out and blast 'em as you blast away fat!I like to set up in my living room in front of my TV with a good Jillian Michaels DVD if I really can't get myself out of the house. It's not as bearable as the coolness of the gym, but I don't beat myself up over not going!
4. Layer down.
This should be a no-brainer, but don't wear long sleeves or leggings when you work out in the heat! A nice tank top and some breathable running shorts are all you need.
5. Swim.
There's nothing better than jumping into a cool pool on a hot day. Don't have one? Hit up a friend's pool or jump in a local river!
Happy workout, ladies! Stay cool!
